Animal-class 200-ton Safari Ship, Leaping Snowcat (TL10)

Safari ships are used for hunting or photographic expeditions, depending on the predilections of the owner and the laws of the local world.

The main distinguishing feature of this vessel is the presence of a trophy room/lounge, looking out through a large viewing window (protected by a sliding shutter) onto whatever planetary vista presents itself. An air/raft is carried to convey the hunting/photographic party. The steward usually serves as its operator.

The original GT design is on p.T:132. This design is made closer to the deck plans presented in the CT Adventure 10 by including the Hunter's Suite, 6 luxury client staterooms and 4 crew staterooms. One of the client staterooms can be combined with the Hunter's Suite to make a triple size luxury stateroom. Two of the other luxury staterooms have a connecting door allowing them to become a suite (a double sized luxury stateroom).

The Alien Environment Suites provide 20 dTons of "Capture Tank" space for maintaining live alien creatures in exotic environments divided into two 10 dTon tanks. A strong transparent wall between the Capture Tanks and the Trophy Room allows the clients to observe their live trophies.

The Armory allows for secure storage of hunting weapons and other valuable equipment. The numerous other lockers and storage areas around the ship can be considered to be included in the cargo hold space.

With the combination of exotic environments, high-powered weapons and dangerous alien life forms, the addition of a sickbay into this design should be considered a no-brainer.

When grounded on a hospitable planet, the retractable porch can be extended to provide a semi-enclosed deck off the back of the ship. Railings and steps make it possible to deploy the porch even when the ship is floating on water, where it makes an excellent swimming or fishing platform. The porch is accessible through an integral set of stairs at its rear. A ladder on the porch leads up to an access port to the upper deck of the ship.

The ship has high intensity lights installed along the forward wing edge to illuminate the area viewed through the windscreen. Additional lights illuminate the area off the rear porch and external loud speakers can carry voice or music from inside the ship. The hull can be electrically charged to ward off animals or plant life, which menace the ship, and the LCD skin can generate garish displays or a variety of camouflage patterns.

The ship is equipped with fuel scoops and a fuel processor and routinely refuels by skimming gas giants. The ship is also capable of refueling by processing water from local seas on the worlds it visits with an electrolysis unit.

10-ton Kitten-class Hunting Launch (TL10)

This is a custom designed launch for the Leaping Snowcat safari ship. The skin of the launch incorporates the same surface features as the safari ship, LCD and Electrified. The Extra-Heavy Frame and Total Compartmentalization make the launch a very good platform for aquatic (underwater) hunting expeditions and its Sound Baffling allows for closer approaches to game animals. With the cargo bay flooded, the launch comes fairly close to neutral buoyancy. The capture tanks on the safari ship can also be flooded to allow the transport of live aquatic animals. A dedicated aquatic variant of the launch (Minnow class) would reduce the cargo bay slightly to make room for installing a sonar sensor. The launch can be used to support widely separated hunting camps and has sufficient cargo capacity to transport several elephant sized animals at a time.

1-ton Enclosed Air Raft (TL10)

The 1-ton enclosed air/raft is a larger, faster, and more rugged replacement for the ubiquitous open air/raft carried by many starships. This fully enclosed vehicle with integral life support allows the pilot and up to six passengers to travel in shirtsleeve comfort, even on worlds with no atmosphere or hostile environments. Although the basic avionics are inadequate for most space applications, the air/raft is quite capable of reaching orbit. This particular vehicle is customized to operate with the Animal class safari ship and has the same hull features as the safari ship, electrified hull and LCD skin. It also has enough excess CG lift that it's (6 ton) cargo grapple can lift loads that weigh more than the vehicle itself.
